I will never forget the sight. After several hours in the car, after rest stops and fights with my siblings, sing alongs and naps, we find ourselves in traffic unloading into Cape Cod, a river of people in cars emptying into an ocean of rest and relaxation. After that slog of a car ride and knowing that it was still about 30 minutes to get to our actual Cape Cod vacation home we had a big beacon of hope. As you drive over the bridge leading in to Cape Cod proper, which we did very slowly that first heavily trafficked time, you see beautifully arranged bushes that say “Cape Cod.”
That instantly told you where you were and made the whole ride seem worth it. You were now about to get your vacation going full stop. It was exhilarating the first time and every subsequent trip into Cape Cod those same bushes reminded us of all the fun we’d had previously. It was like a reassuring entity at the entry to our family vacations. We would wave to it when we arrived and tearfully wave good bye to it as we drove off. It reminds me to this day of just how nice vacation rentals in Cape Cod could be.
