I will never forget the sight. After several hours in the car, after rest stops and fights with my siblings, sing alongs and naps, we find ourselves in traffic unloading into Cape Cod, a river of people in cars emptying into an ocean of rest and relaxation. After that slog of a car ride and knowing that it was still about 30 minutes to get to our actual Cape Cod vacation home we had a big beacon of hope. As you drive over the bridge leading in to Cape Cod proper, which we did very slowly that first heavily trafficked time, you see beautifully arranged bushes that say “Cape Cod.”

That instantly told you where you were and made the whole ride seem worth it. You were now about to get your vacation going full stop. It was exhilarating the first time and every subsequent trip into Cape Cod those same bushes reminded us of all the fun we’d had previously. It was like a reassuring entity at the entry to our family vacations. We would wave to it when we arrived and tearfully wave good bye to it as we drove off. It reminds me to this day of just how nice vacation rentals in Cape Cod could be.

Did you know that the 18th annual Cape Cod Maritime Days are happening right this very minute? If you have already settled into your Cape Cod house we are sure you have had time to see all of the exciting events for this period in the local paper. If you haven’t arrived at your Cape Cod rental have no fear. The 18th Cape Cod Maritime Days may have started May 11th but it is in town until the 31st!

Haven’t heard of Cape Cod Maritime Days? Well now is as good a time as any. Cape Cod Maritime Days is an event to celebrate the rich maritime history of the areas in and around Cape Cod. And since those very same maritime conditions that allowed for the event to be possible are also among your top reasons for choosing Cape Cod rental homes this even is probably right up your alley.

Maritime history is American history and this event is a great opportunity to educate yourself and your family about the history of our country. Especially in these trying times it is important to remember where we came from as a nation. No reason fun can’t also teach you a thing or two.

I am a bit of a foodie. Not like a multi-millionaire foodie going to all of the five star restaurants I can, but we do all right. We love finding the choice spots in every community we visit. I have developed a nose for finding the best food a city has to offer. When we settled into our Massachusetts vacation on beautiful Cape Cod I immediately started scouring the internet for choice eats.

What I found was a place absolutely swimming in amazing seafood. It was clear this would be our first choice while here and as an obsessive shellfish fan I could not have been happier. The Brewster Fish House was where we went for dinner the first night. The prices were super reasonable especially considering  we were on vacation and as a result eager to spend. (You can’t take it with you.) We managed to get pretty tipsy since we knew our meal was priced so well.

This place was great, after a short wait we were treated to amazing service. The courteous and intimate atmosphere made the food seem to taste better. Portions were heaping and the fish was so fresh it was as if they were dragging them off the dock and onto my plate. For a foodie this was an amazing beginning to a summer in Cape Cod.

I will never forget the day we went whale watching. I was young, maybe six years old. It was cool for a summer day so we had sweatshirts on with shorts. I remember the cold sea air hitting my legs and making me almost shiver. I remember the crowd desperate to actually see something and I remember the breath taking moment where we got close to a whale in the wild. The crowd collectively gasped and very quietly chattered and snapped photos in awe. I remember my father being more excited than I was used to.

Exciting to know these whale watching trips are still important for many family’s Cape Cod vacations. It certainly left a huge impression on me. Being close to an animal like that really shows you how big the world really can be. The vastness of the ocean and the amount of amazing creatures who inhabit it is staggering. The amount of maritime excitement to be had in the Cape Cod area is truly astounding. There are aquariums and so many beaches, but whale watching is a very specific kind of fun.

Cape Cod summer rentals are great for a vast amount of reasons. For me though, when I have a family I’m going to be in it  for the whale watching.

Through the south and the north-west of the United States of America there are thousands of “hot” vacation spots. These places have beautiful beaches, some have county fairs, summer fireworks spectaculars, and plenty of shopping. But Cape Cod has all that and something far more important. Cape Cod has an indelible place in the history of this great nation. Plymouth Rock the famous landing point of the pilgrims is right there on Cape Cod. You can see it.

It is amazing to think about the arrival of all of those pilgrims in such a beautiful place. How they must have felt about the vast opportunity of such a resource-rich and picturesque area. That potential is still there when you take a Massachusetts vacation. There are still beautiful historical sites and you can explore lots of landmarked areas dedicated to remembering the founders of the United States as we know it.

In the Provincetown area there is a great monument called the Pilgrim Monument. Not only is it a monument to our collective history it also has some of the most gorgeous views in all of New England. Cape Cod of course is the original entry way to New England. It is amazing to think about standing on the place where it all began. Make some historical sites part of your Cape Cod vacation, you’ll be glad you did.

The summer is coming and your Cape Cod vacation rental will be in prime season. Of course with the busy summer months comes a lot of responsibility. The whole extended family wants to share some time at your vacation home, not to mention your close friends and business associates. You want to make time for everyone but still have time for yourself.

That is why now is a great time to enjoy your Cape Cod vacation homes, before everyones’ extended social circle moves in. Sure it may not be prime swimming at the beach weather but the beautiful beaches of Cape Cod are enjoyable even with a chill in the air.

I remember a few early spring time trips to Cape Cod. We would go for the weekend. Mom and Dad would get us at school and we would be on the beach by dusk. Sure we would have to wear sweaters but that did not come between us and sand castle building. On top of that there were the peaceful walks my parents and grandparents would take us on. The fresh sea water would hit our nose and the air just felt sweeter there.

So enjoy your Cape Cod home in the early spring too. When you’re overrun with company you’ll be glad you did.

Cape Cod remains one of my favorite places. It is not just the beaches but all of the possible activities available. There are aquariums and breweries, there are historical sites and fantastic shopping. It is one of the most wonderfully fulfilling places I’ve ever visited because of the diversity of potential activities. It is almost as if the entire area has been manufactured just to entertain visitors and vacationing families. To some extent that is the case.

Because it was one of the first areas colonized when pilgrims came to America the Cape(as it is referred to locally) was stripped of greenery and resources early in its development. Around 1860 as the western United States began to open up farmers and residents fled Cape Cod. By the end of the 19th century the local greenery and general beauty was renewed and Cape Cod became a summer haven for Northerners of all stripes.

That is the rarefied air that the new Cape Cod vacation home renter steps into. That beautiful Cape Cod summer rental is one in a long line. This place has a history of entertaining the millions who have come through. It is a place where luxury and comfort are forever locked in harmony.
